Customer Challenge:

The bearing on the swing jaw of a key piece of operational equipment in a large quarry was failing in-service too regularly and frequent downtime taken to repair it had not resolved the issues.

DMM eng Innovative Solution:

Repeated failures indicated that the diagnosis of the root cause and hence past remediation attempts had not resolved the problem.DMM eng was engaged to rectify this problem. A thorough technical examination of the bearing surfaces, including accurate measurement of critical clearances

combined with the application of deep engineering expertise identified that the thermal growth clearances were incorrectly set and the bearing faces were not parallel. This resulted in the housing being out of round, leading to premature failure.

Service Delivered :

The correct thermal growth clearances were re-established, the bearing faces re-bored and aligned in parallel and the housing installed correctly. These tasks were completed in the DMM eng workshop, the jaw was re-assembled, transported to site and safely installed.
